The prestigious award presented by CNBC Africa in South Africa for the second year running is a recognition and tribute to African Business Leaders who have made a qualitative and quantitative difference to the companies, industries and communities that they serve.

On receiving the award, Dr Mwangi said, “I am honored to receive this award. I look forward to working more with other likeminded thought leaders who serve to develop strategic direction that will lead to actionable solutions to mitigate Africa’s poverty levels and put us on a growth trajectory to be in the same league with the developed world. This award represents all Africans who are working hard to improve their livelihoods and those of their communities.”

Rakesh Wahi, the Founder of ABN Group and founder of the AABLA awards said, “ I would like to congratulate all the winners and finalists for their superb work, they are promoting African leadership that will eventually create and preserve the wealth and glory that belongs to its people.”

Following the success of the inaugural awards last year, the AABLA 2012 saw a series of regional awards with nominations hosted across East, West and Southern Africa, with the winners then proceeding through as finalists for the AABLA finale. Dr Mwangi was named the East Africa Business Leader in 2012.

“It is important to recognize the business leaders across Africa and the only way to do this is to host regional awards. CNBC Africa has almost completed 5 years and now has the history and credibility to honour African business leaders,” said Rakesh Wahi, and added; “AABLA is held across 3 African regions, making it one of Africa’s most sought after awards,” he added.

The spectacular grand finale which was attended by captains of industry and government leaders across Africa saw nominations in each region adjudicated by a panel of esteemed judges including Yunus Suleman Chairman, KPMG; Prof Nick Binedell Director, Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS); Russell Loubser former CEO, Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) and Godfrey Mutizwa Chief Editor, CNBC Africa.
