NON-EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN

Mark is currently the Managing Director of Serengeti Breweries Limited in Tanzania, a subsidiary of the East African Breweries Group, which is in turn a subsidiary of Diageo Plc. He holds a Bachelor of Statistics degree from Makerere University in Uganda, a Masters in Business Administration degree from the Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, UK and an Advanced Management Program certificate from the London Business School. He has 30 years of operational and executive experience working in blue-chip companies in Downstream Oil, Telecoms and FMCG sectors.

Managing Director

Samuel holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration (Finance) from Moi University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Statistics from Egerton University. He is a graduate of Advanced Management Programme (Strathmore IESE Business School, Barcelona Spain). He joined Equity Bank in 2001 and has gained vast experience in operations, marketing and customer service. Samuel previously served as the Chief Operations Officer in Equity Bank South Sudan and most recently as the Managing Director, Equity Bank Rwanda.

Anthony holds an MBA in Oil and Gas from Middlesex University, London and a Bachelors Degree in Statistics and Applied Economics from Makerere University, Uganda. He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants Certificate (FCCA) and has completed an Advanced Management Program from Strathmore, Lagos and IESE (Spain) Business Schools as well as several other executive leadership programs at Gordon Institute of Business and INSEAD. He has over 13 years of banking experience and has previously worked with Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Barclays Bank Uganda Limited. He joined Equity Bank in 2014 and was previously the Group Executive Director for Regional Subsidiaries.

Evelyn Rutagwenda

Evelyn holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Makerere University, Kampala and is a Certified Public Accountant. She previously worked as the Auditor General for the Republic of Rwanda; as the Secretary General of Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI); consultant/project accountant for Decentralization Secretariat (Institutional Capacity Building Project); Ministry of Local Government, Uganda and also as Chief Auditor at UCA Auditing Services among others. Evelyn also spearheaded the formation of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Rwanda (ICPAR) and subsequently served the Institute in various capacities including, Chairperson of the Interim Governing Council, Ex Officio and elected member of the Governing Council. In 2009 she received an ACCA Achievements Award for her outstanding contribution to developing the accountancy and finance profession. She is currently the Chair-MTN Rwanda and Crystal Telecom Limited Boards of Directors, Vice-Chair, Board of Directors, Rwanda Development Board and also serves on the Board of Directors of Victoria Motors Rwanda.

Norah holds a Bachelors Degree in Commerce (Accounting) Hons. from Makerere University and a Doctorate in Executive Performance from Middlesex University, UK. She is an Accredited Professional Certified Coach (PCC) – International Coaching Federation and a Certified Executive Coach, Organization Development Consultant, Facilitator/ trainer and public speaker with working experience across 4 careers (Accountancy, Marketing, Insurance, Coaching) in 21 countries across 3 continents (Africa, Europe, America). As a coach, she has served top executives in over 100 organizations. Norah runs Coach Africa Ltd the first coaching firm in Eastern Africa. She has served on a number of boards including Alliance Africa Insurance Group, Lion Assurance Co., Majestic Brands Ltd. (Buganda Kingdom), Katutandike Uganda, Coach Africa Ltd. and Institute of Work Culture and Ethics.

Allen holds a Bachelors Degree in Commerce from Makerere University and an MBA from the University of New England, Australia. She is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA-UK), a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (CPA – U). She is a strategist and business performance leader with a strong commercial, finance and execution background. She has experience across diverse industries such as financial services (JP Morgan and Royal Bank of Canada in Australia) and consumer goods in Uganda, Kenya (EABL) and Unga Millers. Allen runs Zynamics (U) Limited, which is the exclusive distributor for Unga Farmcare EA Limited in Uganda. Prior to this, she was a General Manager in Unga Millers Uganda and also worked in EABL/ UBL – DIAGEO.

Group Executive Director

Mary holds a Masters degree in Leading Innovation and Change from York St. John University, UK, a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi and a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. She is a graduate of the Advanced Management Programme (Strathmore -IESE Business School, Barcelona Spain) and the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School.

She serves in the Africa Financial Industry Summit Advisory Board. The Summit brings together the industry’s most influential stakeholders in transforming the financial industry in Africa. She is also a member and mentor under the Women on Boards Network. She is a Certified Public Secretary (Kenya) and member of The Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya (ICPSK), Law Society of Kenya, Women Corporate Directors and the Kenya Section of International Commission of Jurists. She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Gender and Development and has over 15 years’ experience in private legal practice.

Simon holds a Bachelors Degree in Statistics and an MBA from Edinburgh Business School, Herriot – Watt University, Scotland. He is a Fellow, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda. He is currently a Director and majority shareholder of GVZ Investments Limited. He was the Chief Executive Officer at Crown Beverages Limited for eight years after having served in the capacity of Finance Director. He also worked with Uganda Breweries Limited, rising from Assistant Internal Auditor to Head of Internal Audit and then as Finance Director.

Jimmy Mwangangi

Head of Credit

Jimmy holds a Bachelors of Commerce; is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) and currently a finalist of the MSc – Finance program. He has over 12 years’ experience in banking and in the fields of Credit growth and Credit Risk management. Prior to re-joining Equity Bank Uganda Ltd, Jimmy was working at the Equity Bank Kenya Ltd as Head of Retail Credit. Further, for the period November 2010 till August 2014, Jimmy worked with EBUL as our Head of Credit Risk and intermittently acted in the position of GM Credit.

Head of Internal Audit

Joseph holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University (UK) and Professional Qualification with Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). He is an active member of the Institute of the Internal Auditors (Uganda charter). He is pursuing a Master of Arts in Financial Services at Makerere University and Leadership Development Program at Strathmore Business School. He is an accountant with 15 years of experience in Accounting, Finance, External and Internal Audit. His Banking career started at Equity Bank in 2009 as an Internal Auditor.

Sarah K. Nakkazi

Sarah K. Nakkazi

Head of Compliance

Sarah holds a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics from Makerere University Kampala Uganda, a Master’s Degree in Financial Management from Amity University, India and a professional certification in Banking Risk & Regulations with the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP). She is also a licensed trustee (staff appointed) of the Bank’s retirement benefit scheme. She joined Equity Bank in June 2012 from Standard Chartered Bank where she had worked for 5 years. She joined the bank as a Compliance Officer. From March 2015, when she acted as the Compliance Manager until January 2016 when she was appointed to the position of Risk Manager. In September, 2016, the board approved her appointment as the Bank’s Compliance Manager.

Head of Operations

Kenneth holds a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree of Makerere University and is an affiliate member of the Institute of Risk Management (IRM) – UK. He is also currently undertaking research leading to the award of a Master of Science degree in Accounting and Finance of Makerere University. Kenneth has attended several Risk Management courses and trainings within Uganda, Kenya and Morocco. He is very passionate about enterprise risk management and has financial services risk management experience spanning nine years.

Kezia D. Asiimwe

Manager, Finance

Kezia is a holder of a B.com (Accounting) bachelor’s degree, is an affiliate of ACCA and is currently a finalist of the MBA program at Edinburgh Business School. She joined Equity Bank in November 2014 as a financial accountant from PWC, where she worked in Uganda and Rwanda.

Juliet Muheirwe

HEAD OF HUMAN RESOURCES

Juliet holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Human Resource Management. She has over 10 years’ experience as a Human Resource Practitioner in the banking and telecommunication industry and has previously worked with Centenary Bank, Airtel Uganda and Airtel Africa (Nairobi). She joined Equity Bank in 2019.

Our Achievements

Equity Bank's business model has attracted both local and international recognition. On many occasions, the Bank has been invited to various international forums and bodies to share on its successes. Equity has also become a hub of other institutions worldwide keen on learning and exchanging insights on the Equity model of extending financial services to the low income segment and the un-banked population. A number of international luminaries have paid a courtesy call on Equity Bank on their mission to study poverty reduction initiatives in Africa. Among the dignitaries who have visited us are UN Advisor HRH Princess Maxima of Netherlands, former UN First Lady Nane Annan, CGAP President Elizabeth LittleField, WWB President Nancy Barry and Melinda French Gates.
